Autumn is many people’s favourite time of the year – the leaves are turning, the nights are drawing in and, best of all, the fashion industry is stepping up its game.
An autumn jacket is an essential investment; some of them can keep you going for years, and there’s always chic new styles to explore. Autumn 2019 is all about checks, dusty pinks, greys, deep reds and browns. There’s a new jacket calling your name – you just need to figure out what your style is first.
Go green: First up, as the styles emerging this autumn are showcasing the best in 60s fashion, and vintage is something you may want to explore in order to save money (and the planet at the same time). Going green is becoming increasingly important in the world of fashion.
ASOS is a great pioneer of this – 70% of clothes sold on the ASOS Marketplace are vintage or pre-worn items, contributing to their 2020 Circular Fashion Commitments.
If you don’t feel like splashing out several hundred pounds on a new jacket, check out ASOS, your local vintage stores, or even sites such as eBay for some great, well-priced and bang-on trend looks which help fight fast fashion and embrace the biggest trend of all – sustainability.
The aviator : They’re not exactly a new style, but aviators are back with a vengeance. This time around, they’re bigger and better than ever.
Think leather (or leather-look) outer lining, with thick faux fur around the collar and inner lining. Black and brown will pair perfectly with pretty much any outfit; tights, skirts, boots, jeans. Or, go for a neutral beige with vanilla colour faux fur, for a proper ‘Almost Famous’ vibe.
Oversized (especially blazers)
Oversized is well and truly in this autumn, especially when it comes to blazers.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you may have noticed the sheer amount of oversized blazers making an appearance on the high street for this season.
Think greys, checks, dark yellows (hello Cher Clueless) and other neutral tones to create the perfect mix. Go double breasted if you’re keen to dress up your look every now and again, and wear over blouses, shirts, thick knits and jeans. Knee-high boots look particularly stylish with an oversized blazer, especially with a cute midi dress underneath to make the perfect transition from summer to autumn.
Overcoats: But not as you know them. Oh no – dusty pinks, greys and burgundy are coming on strong in the overcoat game this autumn. They are thick, comfy and perfect for throwing on over your favourite jumper dress.
If you want to switch it up, go for a pink, deep red, or even khaki. This Autumn can be the perfect chance for a bit of a change.
